In the basement of NBC at 4001 Nebraska Ave, NW Washington, DC
was the radio island.
Originally a group of 3 studios and control rooms, they ran everything
from network programming to full orchestras to the Joy Boys to disco.
The vitual tour shows the original floor plan as it existed in the
days of the Great 98 (1972-74).
The biggest change made was for WKYS. Studio 1 was divided in half.
The right side became WRC News Talk.
The remaining side was divided in half again and became
the WKYS studio and control room
This is the hallway that runs between radio and the music library.
The panels on the wall are directly behind radio recording and housed a series of relays.
To our knowledge they are still in the wall today
